New Jersey’s Bumper Year Continues With Powerball Jackpot Win

Tuesday June 11th 2024

A Powerball player from New Jersey has landed a jackpot worth $222.6 million in the latest drawing on Monday night. It is the second time this year that someone from the Garden State has won a major prize, following the $1.13 billion payout that went to a Mega Millions ticket holder back in March.

The winning numbers for June 10th were 3, 10, 33, 58 and 59, with Powerball 9. The Power Play multiplier was 2X, so more than 100,000 winners saw their payouts doubled. Go to the Powerball Numbers page to see a summary of all the prizes won on another big night.

Only one ticket matched the full set of numbers, making it the first time in more than a month that the jackpot had been won. The most recent success came on May 6th, when a participant from Florida pocketed $214 million.

12th Jackpot Win for NJ

It was quickly announced after Monday’s draw that the winning ticket had been sold in New Jersey. The state has now been the scene of 12 Powerball jackpot wins since it joined the game in 2010.

The biggest of the lot came in May 2016 when the Smith Family Lottery Pool claimed a grand prize of $429.6 million. They actually opted for the cash lump sum of $284 million.

For Monday’s draw, the cash option was worth $104.7 million. In New Jersey, players have to specify whether they would wish to receive the cash or annuity when they purchase their tickets, so the winner has already made one big decision without probably expecting that it would be so important.

Another one will come when they claim their money, as winners in the Garden State are allowed to stay anonymous. Many previous ticket holders from New Jersey have taken advantage of that option and kept their identities private.

Powerball draws will continue every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, with the jackpot now resetting to $20 million. The Mega Millions jackpot was also won just last week, by someone from Illinois, so players across the U.S. may look to enjoy some of their own state lotteries in the short term while the multi-state games build up. California SuperLotto Plus, for example, currently offers a jackpot of $43 million.
