Winner Of $337 million Powerball Yet to Claim Prize

Wednesday August 22nd 2012

After rolling over since 27th June 2012, the US Powerball jackpot was finally won on Wednesday 15th August 2012 by a single ticket holder. The jackpot has risen to a whopping $337 million, after the copious rollovers and huge amount of ticket sales boosted the Wednesday prize fund from an anticipated $320 million to a whopping $337 million. This made it the third largest Powerball jackpot ever and as it was won by just one ticket holder, made it the largest cash individual pay out in Powerball history of $244.7 million. However, that lucky prize winner has yet to come forward.

Lottery officials have announced that the winning ticket was bought in Lapeer, Michigan, from the Sunoco gas station and convenience store. Lapeer is a small town of just 8,841 inhabitants, 60 miles north of Detroit, and naturally, speculation about the winner is rife. Residents are watching eagerly for anyone who displays unusual habits, such as not turning up for work, in their quest to confirm the winner. The winner is not the only one who stands to benefit financially from their win – once the prize has been claimed, the gas station will gain $50,000 as the retailer of the winning ticket.

Under Michigan state law, once the winner of the Powerball comes forward their name will be released to the public, so it could be that they are coming to terms with their win, before the publicity starts up. Or, it could be that they simply haven’t checked their ticket – as is often the case with delays in winners coming forward.

In total, a massive 172,237,868 tickets were sold for this whopping Wednesday draw across all 42 states, so the whole of America is on the edge of their seats to find out who the mystery winner is, who beat the almost impossible odds to net that superb prize.
