Welsh Scratchcard Jackpot
Thursday April 23rd 2009Another National Lottery scratchcard jackpot has been won, this time by a player in Wales. Emyr Jones, who is 53 and lives in Conwy, bought a Deal or No Deal scratchcard from his local garage after refuelling his van during the Easter period.
His additional investment of just £2 paid off handsomely, but Emyr wasn’t immediately convinced because he didn’t have his glasses with him!
Emyr decided to visit his wife Eirian, who works as a housekeeper at a local hotel. “Eirian said she was certain I had won the jackpot and her boss agreed,” Emyr explained. “I took it straight back to the garage where they verified it as a £250,000 win. I know everyone says it, but I just couldn’t believe my eyes.”
Emyr was made redundant in 2007 and after working at a few short-term projects he launched his own business as a handyman in 2008. The lottery scratchcards win will therefore be particularly useful.
“I can honestly say we’ve had a very happy Easter,” Emyr said. “We enjoyed a celebration night on Easter Monday and we’re planning to spend some of the money on extending and improving the house. I will also change my work van for a newer one. We’re thinking of taking a holiday and we’ll no doubt spend some on the family and our two grandchildren. But neither of us intend to give up working. I couldn’t imagine doing that.”
Emyr is an enthusiastic lottery player and tends to buy lottery tickets for the Lotto as well as lottery scratchcards. “I’ve had a few small Lotto wins over the years,” Emyr explained, “but my luck seemed to have deserted me recently – until I landed that golden Easter Egg. I certainly shan’t forget that day in a hurry.”
