Waitress wins New York Lottery jackpot
Friday February 4th 2011A waitress from New York state may well have served her last meal after winning $3million on an instant scratchcard. Deborah Hollenbach, of Cohoes, Albany County, who goes regularly to buy lotto tickets, was cashing in some old slips when she decided to buy two more scratchcards with the winnings. As a result the 66-year-old is now a multi-millionaire.
She said: “When I saw all those zeros on the second ticket I scratched, I froze for a split second and then ran back in the store to validate it. They scanned it for me and sure enough it was a winner!”
Ms Hollenbach will now have to get used to being waited on herself while she decides how to spend her annual cheques. After deciding to take regular payments rather than a lump sum in cash, the new lottery millionaire will receive $99,045 every year until 2030.
She told New York Lottery organisers that she’s planning to buy a new truck and pay in cash, but other than that is just waiting for the win to sink in before going on a spending spree.
