US Lottery players rush to scoop $237m jackpot
Thursday December 30th 2010There will be an outbreak of lottery fever across America this New Year’s Eve, as players rush to take a chance of winning a huge $237million jackpot. That will be the top prize in the multi-state Mega Millions game, after no one won the $200million (£154million) top prize in the draw which took place on Christmas Eve.
The lack of a top prize winner last Friday made it 14 successive weeks without the jackpot being won in the game, for which players across 41 American states and the District of Columbia can buy lottery tickets.
Seventeen players of the Christmas Eve MegaMillions game did, however, enjoy a happier Christmas than they could possibly have expected, after scooping $250,000 each for matching five of the six numbers drawn.
The winning numbers of the most recent game, played on Tuesday evening, were 6, 18, 36, 40 and 49, with number 7 being drawn as the Mega Ball.
