Train delay saw South Carolina lottery player net $1m
Thursday January 20th 2011A South Carolina woman who decided to buy an instant lottery ticket while waiting for a train to pass a level crossing has scooped a $1million jackpot prize. The single mother-of-six from Orangeburg, who did not wish to be named, told South Carolina lottery organisers that she was driving home when a passing train cut off her path. The woman pulled over to the side of the road and went into a convenience store where she decided to buy lotto tickets.
After scratching her Carolina Millionaires Club instant lottery ticket outside the store, the woman began shaking and rushed back inside.
She said: “If it wasn’t for that train, I would have headed straight home. I’m trying not to let this overwhelm me. I’m so happy.”
The jackpot winner said she had not yet decided exactly how she is going to spend the cash, but that a new car and a house are possibilities.
lottery officials said four more $1million jackpot prizes remain in the game.
