Having won only small amounts before, Debra had never dreamed of winning an amount such as this, and plans to have what she calls an ‘exceptional Christmas’.
After finding out that by accepting her lottery prize in one lump sum, she would only receive about half of what the lottery ticket was worth, Debra has chosen to receive her win from the Massachusetts Lottery in 20 annual sums of $500,000. The store that sold the winning instant lottery ticket to Roberto, will receive a bonus of $50,000.
This instant prize game from the Massachusetts Lottery was introduced two years ago. Since then the Massachusetts Lottery has awarded 14 prizes of this amount and currently runs 12 instant lottery games with prizes of $10 million.
Debra, who owns a construction company with her husband, which is based at their home, plans to hand the business over to their three children of two daughters and a son and their son will continue to run the business.
Debra was asked if she would still continue to buy lottery tickets for the Massachusetts Lottery and she revealed that she already had.
Roberto’s win will certainly ensure that she has the exceptional Christmas that she is planning, but other than that she claims that the lottery win will not change very much else.
