Monday November 28th 2016

The long wait to find a winner of the Powerball jackpot is over after a player from Tennessee successfully matched all six numbers to win the $420.9 million prize. Tennessee Lottery officials broke the news on Sunday morning following the drawing on the evening of Saturday November 26th, and revealed that the winning ticket was sold in Lafayette, a city of around 5,000mresidents that lies around 60 miles to the north east of the state’s capital, Nashville.

The winning Powerball numbers were 17, 19, 21, 37 and 44, with 16 appearing as the Powerball and Power Play 2. While the winner of the ninth biggest reward in Powerball history is yet to make themselves known, Tennessee Lottery officials are urging the lucky ticket holder to sign the back of their winning playslip immediately and store it in a safe place before claiming their huge prize. The latest victor not only has the honour of becoming the first winner of the jackpot since Saturday September 17th, a run stretching back 19 draws, but also takes the title of the 200th Tennessee ticket holder to win a prize in excess of $1 million.

This is the sixth time a player from the Volunteer State has claimed a Powerball jackpot and it is the region’s first top prize winner since John and Lisa Robinson of Munford successfully claimed a share of a record-breaking $1.58 billion sum in January of this year. The winner will now have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim their colossal prize and write their name in US lottery history.

The Tennessee ticket holder wasn’t the only fortuitous Powerball fan to benefit from Saturday’s drawing. A total of 1,582,786 players felt the warming embrace of Lady Luck, including two players from Pennsylvania and Minnesota who won prizes of $1 million, and one ticket holder from North Carolina whose seven-figure reward was doubled thanks to Power Play.

With the jackpot total now reset, Wednesday’s top prize is worth a guaranteed $40 million, a sum that would add the crowning glory to any Christmas celebrations. To be in with a chance of winning, Powerball tickets are available to buy from any authorised retailer in participating states and jurisdictions. Good luck!
