Sussex Millions
Monday July 21st 2008A Sussex couple has won more than £2.3 million after sharing half of the £4,698,110 Lotto jackpot on Saturday 5 July, 2008. Bob and Pat Green, who live in Horsham, are now busy getting used to the fact that they are £2,349,055 better off.
The Greens have been playing the lottery from the very beginning, and they normally buy the same set of random numbers from the same retailer. However, the ticket that they won with was bought from a different retailer than usual, and they almost changed their numbers – something that would have cost them dearly.
“We’ve always used the same numbers, which were chosen at random, but Bob had recently complained that they weren’t winning numbers so had been telling me to change them,” Pat said. “Luckily I hadn’t got around to actually doing it!”
The couple found out about their win when Pat checked their numbers in the newspaper. “I was in the kitchen with my grandchildren checking my numbers in the paper as usual,” she explained. “I couldn’t believe it when I realised that our numbers matched the draw. I waited for my son to come home and got him to check the ticket against the paper. We were stunned. My youngest grandchild couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about!”
With three children and seven grandchildren, Bob and Pat are thinking hard about the best way to use their £2,349,055 fortune. Bob, who is a keen TT race fan, intends to visit the Isle of Man to enjoy the event in person. He said: “I’ve always wanted to go to the Isle of Man TT and am delighted that now I can finally go.”
