Speculation rife over Mega Millions winners

Thursday February 3rd 2011

The search is well and truly on for the two players who struck gold in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions lottery draw. Players in Michigan and Indiana managed to pick the five correct main numbers along with the Mega Ball, and as a result will split the $91million jackpot.

The first lottery ticket was sold at a Meijer store in Belleville, Michigan, a city with just under 4,000 residents. Diana Kollmeyer, Belleville City Manager, told The Detroit News she hopes the winner is someone local.

She said: “They'd be able to pay their taxes! It would be really cool if it was someone I knew.”

Despite the recent snow that has hit the area, people were keen to visit the store yesterday and speculate over who may have won and what they’d do with a cheque for $45.5million.

Over in Indiana it is much the same story, with everyone keen to find out who has won the jackpot. The winning ticket was bought at the Strack & Van Til grocery store in Munster.

Anyone who decided to buy lotto tickets for Tuesday night’s draw has been encouraged to check their slips and winners should sign the back immediately.

As always after a big win, the Mega Millions jackpot has been reset and is estimated at $12million for this Friday’s game.
