Rhode Island Powerball Players Urged to Check Their Tickets
Wednesday December 6th 2017Rhode Island State Lottery officials are appealing for Powerball players to check their double check their tickets as the search for the winner of a $1 million prize continues. The lucky winner, whose good fortune will expire if they fail to come forward, prospered in the draw on Wednesday, September 27th, but is yet to make contact regarding the handsome sum.
The winning entry was purchased from A Little Lamb in the food court of the Warwick Mall on the Tuesday prior to the draw. The playslip was one of four $1 million winners on the night, matching the numbers 8, 10, 21, 23 and 25. Each ticket holder was just one number - Powerball 22 - away from securing a jackpot of $66.1 million.
Where is the Rhode Island Powerball Winner?
The good news for the victor is that Rhode Island State Lottery rules dictate that all prizes must be claimed within one year of the draw, meaning the mystery participant has until September 27th 2018 to come forward. However, Gerald S. Aubin, the state’s lottery director, remains determined to united the winner with their reward as quickly as possible. In a statement, he explained that the unsuspecting millionaire may have left their ticket the laundry, in a car visor or has simply just forgotten about it.
Aubin also explained that Rhode Island players have a habit of missing out on lottery prizes. Over the past five years, players in the Ocean State have failed to claim more than $2 million combined, usually from lower-range Powerball prizes, Keno and instant win tickets. However, the state lottery’s chief admitted that this would be one of the largest prizes to go unclaimed, should the worst case scenario occur.
If the $1 million winner fails to emerge before next year’s deadline, the money will be returned to the Rhode Island general fund. If you believe you are the winner, contact the state lottery before it is too late.
Rhode Island Powerball Success
While the hunt continues for one mystery winner, the identity of another has been revealed, as a man from Providence came forward to claim a $1 million prize from Saturday’s draw. Stephen Mackie, whose successful entry matched all five main numbers to clinch the seven-figure sum, bought his ticket from Sunrise Market, and lottery officials revealed “he plans to spend his winnings wisely.”
