Powerball winners to split $37m
Monday December 13th 2010A pair of Powerball lottery players will split Saturday night’s jackpot of $37million after picking out the winning numbers. According to lottery officials, one of the winning tickets was sold in Louisville, Kentucky and the other in Illinois. Organisers have yet to give further details as to where in the state that ticket was purchased.
The winning Powerball numbers for Saturday, December 11 were 1, 8, 10, 19 and 20. The Powerball was 23. Each ticket is worth $18.5million, although the winners may choose to claim the cash option which would result in a prize of $9.6million.
But the jackpot winners weren’t the only ones celebrating on Saturday night. The draw saw plenty of other people walk away with a cash prize, including 23 players who matched five numbers and won $200,000 each. Two of these players also chose to spend an extra $1 on the Power Play option when buying lottery tickets and as a result they will pick up a prize of $1million each.
Lottery players are being urged to check their numbers from Saturday night and make sure the rear of their ticket is signed. Winners should then contact the appropriate lottery commission.
As result of the win, the jackpot for this coming Wednesday’s draw has been reset to $20million.
