Powerball winner scoops $184million
Monday February 28th 2011The Powerball jackpot has finally been claimed after weeks of rollovers, netting the winning lottery ticket holder $184million. Only one person managed to pick all of the main numbers in Saturday’s draw – 4, 13, 17, 21 and 45, as well as the Powerball, 10.
So far, lottery officials have only confirmed that the ticket was bought in Florida, but as usual with a win of this magnitude, the identity of the new multi-millionaire is unlikely to stay secret for long. The numbers were picked at random at a Publix Supermarket in Kissimmee, using the lottery’s Quick Pick option.
According to the Miami Herald newspaper, the holder of another winning ticket, sold by the North Carolina Lottery, matched the five main numbers, but not the Powerball. As the ticket holder decided to pay an extra $1 for the game’s Power Play option, their prize was automatically increased from $200,000 to $1million.
Now the Powerball jackpot has finally been claimed, the top prize for this Tuesday’s draw will fall back to $20million.
