Powerball Strategies for the $430 Million Jackpot Drawing
Tuesday August 15th 2017One of the largest Powerball jackpots of the year will be available on Wednesday night after another drawing came and went without a winner on Saturday. Players across the U.S will be keeping faith with their favourite numbers or choosing Quick Picks to try and win the top prize, but are there are any other strategies you could use?
Play in a group
The only way to guarantee winning the Powerball jackpot is to play every single combination of numbers, but this would involve buying more than 292 million tickets. A better way to boost your chances might be to team up with others in a syndicate, so you could own a share of more tickets while splitting the costs. You would have to divide the winnings, of course, but you would all be able to enjoy the success together.
Look at the stats
What are the luckiest numbers in Powerball history? According to the statistics, the numbers 26, 16, 41, 22 and 32, which have been drawn more frequently than the rest. As far as the Powerball number goes, both 6 and 20 have appeared the same amount of times. Alternatively, you could consider which numbers have gone the longest since they last appeared, and the stats say that the number 34 is the most overdue as it has not been drawn since October 12th 2016. The numbers 6, 25, 27 and 52 are next on the list.
Pick random numbers
The odds of winning are the same for every combination of numbers, but it is more likely that you would have to share a big prize if you pick particular numbers. For example, if you select 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, with a Powerball of 6, it is possible that hundreds of other players would also pick these numbers. You would therefore end up with a much smaller prize than you might expect if these numbers were drawn. A lot of players also use significant dates to choose their numbers, so you are more likely to have to share a prize if all the numbers are below 31. The best strategy is therefore to choose a random spread of numbers with no pattern, to give you the maximum chance of having a prize all for yourself.
Great prizes
Wednesday’s drawing will offer the third-largest Powerball jackpot of the year, having not been won since Jeff Lindsay from California landed $447.8 million on June 10th. Anyone who wants to try and win can choose numbers online or visit authorized retailers in any of the participating states. Good luck!
