Powerball lottery winner turns white

Wednesday February 16th 2011

A lottery player from Georgia said her husband wouldn’t believe her when she claimed to have won $200,000 on the lottery – until she turned white that was. Sherry Mauldin decided to buy a Quik Pick Powerball ticket for the February 12 draw at the Publix Super Market in the town of Kathleen. The mother-of-five from Warner Robins discovered she’d managed to match the five main numbers after checking the numbers on the Georgia Lottery website, but her husband wasn’t convinced.

"He thought I was just playing", she said. "Until I turned white!"

Mrs Mauldin, who works for a telecoms company as an account executive, told lotto organisers she plans to share the $200,000 with her husband and five children. Some of the cash will go to pay off bills, but the family is also planning a relaxing holiday to the Bahamas.

Mrs Mauldin was left shocked after matching five numbers, and no doubt it would have taken her a little longer to recover if she'd have also picked the Powerball. By matching all six numbers, she'd have scooped $83.5million.

Instead, the Powerball jackpot rolled over once again and stands at an estimated $101million ahead of tonight's draw.
