Powerball Jackpot Soars Past $400 Million
Thursday May 5th 2016The Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated $415 million for the drawing on Saturday, May 7th after no player was able to match the winning numbers drawn in Tallahassee last night. While it may not come close to the $1.58 billion jackpot won by three ticket holders in January 2016, the mouth-watering amount of cash up for grabs this weekend is definitely generating interest across the country.
Before last night’s drawing, the estimated Powerball jackpot was boosted from $348 million to $361.5 million after ticket sales rapidly increased. On the night, two tickets from Florida and New York matched five main numbers to win $1 million each, and more than 1.8 million players won other prizes. Have a look at the Powerball Numbers page to find out more about Wednesday’s game.
If you matched the five main numbers and the Powerball that will be drawn on Saturday evening, you’d instantly become the seventh-largest winner in the history of the game, surpassing an anonymous player from South Carolina who picked up $399.4 million on September 18th, 2013. The lucky winner took the cash option after revealing to lottery officials that he bought tickets completely by chance. Had his wife not called him and asked him to pick up some hot dog buns, he would have never wandered into the store and noticed that the jackpot was so large. While the shop had no hot dog buns, they did have Powerball tickets - one of which netted the man the enormous nine-figure sum.
Powerball tickets are available from authorized retailers in the 44 states and three jurisdictions that participate in the game. Whether you live in Dallas or Denver, one ticket is all you need to have a chance of winning big. Good luck!
