Monday September 19th 2016

America has two brand new multimillionaires following a weekend in which players won nine-figure sums in both Powerball and Mega Millions. An Illinois ticket holder won the $133 million Mega Millions jackpot, breaking a run of 15 rollovers, while a Powerball player from Georgia matched all five main numbers and the Powerball to pick up the $246.8 million top prize.

The Mega Millions numbers were 13, 21, 28, 34 and 40 with Mega Ball 15 and the lucky winner will now have to choose between receiving the full amount in annual payments over 29 years or as an $89 million pre-tax cash lump sum. The Quick Pick ticket was bought at a BP gas station in Tuscola, around 150 miles south of Chicago, and the retailer will be paid a $500,000 bonus for its part in the win.

Saturday September 16th’s Powerball results were 9, 19, 51, 55 and 62 with Powerball 14. It was the fifth Powerball jackpot of 2016 to be won and the lucky Georgian played their lines at a Publix in Brookhaven, Atlanta. The win came just days after a New Hampshire family claimed the $487 million jackpot from Saturday July 30th anonymously through the Robin Egg 2016 Nominee Trust.

The Illinois player has a year in which to claim their prize before it expires and the Atlanta ticket holder will need to make contact with the Georgia Lottery within 180 days.

Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot will now stand at $15 million, right before Powerball fans play for $40 million on Wednesday night. You can buy tickets for both games at authorized retailers in any of the participating states and jurisdictions.
