Pennsylvania Couple Picks Up December Powerball Jackpot in Delaware
Thursday January 19th 2017A man and woman from Pennsylvania have come forward to claim the Powerball jackpot of $121.6 million from 17th December. They have decided to take the one-off cash option of $72.1 million and, after buying their ticket in Delaware, have been allowed to remain anonymous.
The lucky couple always use the same numbers and play when the jackpot gets large. They were rewarded last month when the winning line came out as 1, 8, 16, 40 and 48, with a Powerball of 10, but have only just decided to contact lottery officials to claim the cash.
Delaware is one of the few states in the USA where lottery winners can decide to remain private, and that is a right that has been exercised by the happy pair. They only purchased one ticket, from the Selbyville Goose Creek store on DuPont Boulevard, Selbyville.
The man has admitted that his ‘first reaction was to cry’, but the winners have now recovered from the shock and have some big ideas for what they want to do with the money. The lady said: “This is just such a great experience, and we don't want to spend the money foolishly. I have strong feelings toward education and would want to make donations to schools or other charities in the future. We've also had our eyes on an RV. Since we travel a lot, it would be perfect for our family.”
The man has also always dreamed of owning a hot rod, but both winners are determined not to let the money change them. The woman added: “I told him I don't want us to be different because of the money. We are very blessed to win."
The Powerball jackpot has been steadily growing again since 17th December and stands at an impressive $153 million ahead of Saturday’s drawing after another rollover last night. Tickets can be bought online or from authorized retailers.
