One Ticket Scoops Mega Millions Jackpot
Wednesday January 25th 2012Last night the Mega Millions had its first draw of the week and there was a $71 million jackpot available to win. The results from this Tuesday night draw reveal that one winning ticket matched all five of the main numbers along with the Mega Ball to take home the Mega Millions jackpot. The owner (or owners if it is a syndicate) identity is yet to be revealed, however the desired winning ticket was bought in the participating state of Georgia.
The Mega Millions results from last night’s draw were 10, 22, 24, 36, 49 and the Mega Ball was 33. In addition to the lucky jackpot winner last night there were over 500,000 other players that won one of the eight remaining prizes. Eight of these ticket holders matched all five numbers meaning that they each took home $250,000. However, two of these eight were from the state of California meaning they won a slightly smaller amount of $147,709.
Out of the numbers drawn last night the number 36 is one of the more popular numbers to be selected in the Mega Millions and last night it made its 70th appearance. To contrast that the highest number drawn last night was number 49, and this is actually one of the least selected numbers as it has only been in the Mega Millions results 48 times.
Whether this jackpot winner will opt for the cash or the annuity payment remains to be seen, however this is the first jackpot win of the year for the Mega Millions. This means that the top prize now resets and is worth the minimum jackpot amount, which is $12 million for the next Mega Millions draws that will take place on Friday night.
