Fabulous Festive Period For New York

The Mega Millions jackpot had been growing since the record-breaking $1.53 billion draw on October 23rd, when a ticket holder from South Carolina won the largest prize to have ever been offered on the game.

The record jackpot was the fifth and final win of 2018, but the new year has already created one big winner and set a new high mark for a Mega Millions prize won in New York. It continued a fabulous festive period for lottery fans in the Empire State, after a Powerball player from New York also won $298 million on Wednesday 26th December.

Lottery winners in New York have a year from the date of the draw to come forward and claim any prizes they win, and cannot remain anonymous. The winner of Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot will also have to decide whether to take the full $425 million as an annuity or the cash option of $254.6 million.

The jackpot for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing will revert to its minimum value of $40 million, while Powerball is currently worth $53 million and Lotto America is $13.1 million.
