New Jersey Ticket Wins Powerball Jackpot
Sunday January 24th 2021A single ticket in New Jersey won last night's $23.2 million Powerball top prize - the second time in a week the jackpot has been hit, after a Maryland ticket won a historic $731.1 million prize on Wednesday.
The ticket matched all six Powerball numbers drawn on Saturday, January 23: white balls 5, 8, 17, 27, and 28 and the red Powerball 14. The Power Play multiplier was 2X.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Quick Mart, 155 Lakeview Ave. in Clifton, Passaic County. The store will be paid a $30,000 bonus.
The same convenience store at 155 Lakeview Avenue also sold one of two tickets that matched five of the five white balls in Saturday night's drawing, winning a $1,000,000 second-tier prize.
Another ticket that matched five of the winning numbers was purchased in Sussex County with Power Play, multiplying the prize to $2,000,000. That ticket was sold at a Quick Check store at 26 Route 206 in Stanhope.

In an amazing twist, the same store also sold a Powerball ticket that matched the five white balls on Saturday and is worth $1 million!
"Congratulations to the winner of this multi-million-dollar jackpot! We encourage the winner to sign the back of the ticket, make a copy of both sides and put it in a safe place," advised James Carey, New Jersey Lottery Executive Director.
"We recommend contacting a financial advisor and an attorney before reaching out to Lottery officials at 1-800-222-0996 to arrange to file a claim for this jackpot prize."
In January 2020, New Jersey passed a law allowing lottery winners to stay anonymous if they choose, so it's possible we will not learn the winner's identity. However, the NJ Lottery will announce when the prize is claimed. The winner has one year from the draw date to redeem the life-changing ticket.
When the winner claims, they will have the option to receive the prize as an annuity estimated at $23.2 million, with one initial payment followed by 29 yearly installments, or a one-time lump sum of $17.3 million. These amounts are before required tax withholdings.
Saturday was a big night for New Jersey Lottery players - in addition to the Powerball win, one lucky ticket hit a record Jersey Cash 5 jackpot, scoring a $2,033,234 cash prize. The prize value just beat out the previous top jackpot of $1.96 million won in 2013.
The Cash 5 ticket was bought from the N & A Services Inc. gas station located at 1054 Broadway in Bayonne, Hudson County. The ticket hit all six numbers drawn on January 23: 5, 16, 18, 21, and 29 plus the XTRA number 2.
It's also been an exciting week for Powerball and Mega Millions! On Wednesday, a Maryland ticket won Powerball's fourth-largest ever jackpot. Friday brought another amazing win, as a ticket in Michigan hit the $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot, the second-highest in the game's history.
