A Powerball jackpot worth $315 million was finally won in the draw on Saturday 19th May after 15 consecutive rollovers. The prize went to a single winning ticket, which was bought in New Jersey, and the wait is now on for the lucky winner to come forward to claim their prize.

Winning ticket bought at ShopRite, NJ

The winning Powerball ticket was bought at the ShopRite supermarket at 500 South River St. in Hackensack, New Jersey. It was the only ticket to match all five white balls plus the Powerball in Saturday’s draw, meaning its lucky owner is the sole winner of the nine-figure jackpot.

Announcing the win on Sunday, New Jersey Lottery Acting Executive Director John M. White said: “We are thrilled that the winning Powerball jackpot ticket was sold here and I’m happy to congratulate ShopRite of Hackensack. Special congratulations to the winner of this multi-million dollar Powerball jackpot! We encourage the winner to sign the back of that winning ticket, make a copy of both sides and put it in a safe place.”

The winning numbers were 3, 6, 9, 17, and 56, with Powerball 25. Over 1 million players won a prize, with five players matching all five white balls to win $1 million each. See the Numbers page for a full breakdown.

There is no rush for the ticket holder to come forward, as they have one year from the date of the draw to claim their prize, but it is likely that more details about the winner will be revealed in the coming weeks. They will have the option to take the payout as a cash lump sum, or as annuity payments over 29 years. The cash option would see them walk away with $183 million.

Luck Continues for New Jersey Players

This latest win comes less than two months after Richard Wahl, also from New Jersey, won a Mega Millions jackpot worth £533 million, the fifth-biggest Mega Millions win in history and the biggest ever lottery win in the state. Incredibly, the $315 million won this weekend doesn’t even crack the Powerball top 10, with the lottery’s biggest ever prize a staggering $1.5 billion. This most recent jackpot would have needed to roll over at least another four or five times to reach the same heights. Two other nine-figure Powerball jackpots have already been won this year: $559 million on January 6th and $456 million on March 17th.

Jackpot resets to $40 million

The Powerball jackpot now resets to $40 million after Saturday’s win, which means that the 10x Power Play multiplier is back in play. This gives players who opt in the chance to multiply any non-jackpot prizes they win by up to ten times their original value, determined by a random number drawn on the night of each Powerball draw. The 10x multiplier is only in play when the advertised annuitized jackpot is less than $150 million.

The next Powerball draw takes place on Wednesday 23rd May at 10:59pm EST and the winning numbers can be found on the Numbers page straight after. If you have a ticket, use the Ticket Checker to find out if you have won a prize.
