New Jersey Player Wins $1.13 Billion Mega Millions Jackpot
Wednesday March 27th 2024New Jersey is celebrating the biggest lottery win ever seen in the Garden State after a Mega Millions player landed $1.13 billion in the latest drawing on Tuesday March 26th.
The Mega Millions jackpot had been growing for more than three months, having last been won in California on December 8th. It surged past the $1 billion mark after rolling over last Friday, sparking even more excitement across the U.S. ahead of Tuesday’s draw.
That excitement translated into more ticket sales and, ultimately, more winners. The numbers drawn were 7, 11, 22, 29 and 38, with Mega Ball 4. The Megaplier was 2X.
A total of 3.6 million prizes were paid out on Tuesday, including 14 of $1 million or more. There were 12 ticket holders who became $1 million richer after matching all five main numbers without the Mega Ball, while one New Yorker banked $2 million after adding the Megaplier.
The 14th player to land more than $1 million was the lucky jackpot winner. It was later announced that the winning ticket was purchased at ShopRite Liquor on Route 66 in Neptune, Monmouth County.
“Congratulations to the New Jersey Lottery for selling a jackpot-winning ticket in Tuesday’s $1.13 billion Mega Millions drawing,” said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin, lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium. “We celebrate our new jackpot winner, as well as all the prizes won and dollars raised for good causes during this exciting jackpot run.”

Fifth-Biggest Mega Millions Win
The win ranks as the fifth-largest in Mega Millions history, just behind a $1.337 billion jackpot won by a partnership from Illinois in July 2022.
Top of the list is the $1.602 billion jackpot that went to a ticket holder from Florida in August 2023, followed by the anonymous South Carolina winner who pocketed $1.537 billion back in October 2018. The third-biggest grand prize was worth $1.35 billion and was claimed by LaKoma Island Investments LLC from Maine.
The latest winner now has one year to come forward and claim their prize. They can take the full amount as an annuity or accept the cash option of $537.5 million.
Winners are allowed to stay anonymous in New Jersey, so it is possible that the identity of the lucky ticket holder will never be disclosed.
Previously, the highest lottery payout in New Jersey was a Mega Millions jackpot of $533 million. That winning ticket was purchased at a Lukoil minimart in Riverdale, Morris County.
Tuesday’s result takes New Jersey up to 25 jackpot wins, making it the third-most successful state in Mega Millions behind New York and California. Make sure to keep on playing every Tuesday and Friday night, and you could boost your state’s tally and make yourself a multimillionaire.
