Britain’s National Lottery has created its most millionaires ever in one year, according to figures released by organisers. A spokesman for the National Lottery, said: “This has been an extraordinary year with so many new millionaires and multi-millionaires created.

“There have been some huge prizes paid out and we've been told many of our big winners have created additional millionaires themselves.”

Last week’s Christmas Eve Millionaire Raffle helped create a record-breaking 25 millionaires in one go. So far, 15 of the lucky winners have come forward to collect their prizes, according to the Sun newspaper.

Unfortunately, some people miss out on the chance to become lottery millionaires by not claiming their cash in time. A prize of over £267,000 went unclaimed last week after a winning EuroMillions ticketholder failed to come forward within 180 days.

There are now only a few hours left in which to buy lotto tickets ahead of the final National Lottery draw of the year, which takes place tonight.
