Myrtle Beach Resident Cashes in with Stack of Old Powerball Tickets
Wednesday July 15th 2015A resident of Myrtle Beach found treasure in what most call garbage after discovering that he won $1 million on South Carolina Powerball over a month ago. The man had heard a radio announcement about a missing Match 5 Powerball prize and decided to go through an old pile of tickets.
“I’ve been playing since the lottery started in South Carolina,” he said in a press release from the South Carolina Education Lottery. “The most I’ve ever won before was $12.”
He went home and checked all of the old lottery tickets online, and out of that mess of papers, a single winning ticket from the drawing on Saturday, June 6th was found. It matched the five main numbers - 8, 13, 18, 27, and 43 - from that drawing, netting him a cool $1 million. The winner, whose name has not been made public by lottery officials, was just a Powerball number away from hitting the jackpot. Had he opted for Power Play and matched the multiplier, he could have increased his prize from $1 million to $2 million. However, missing on more cash doesn’t seem to bother him.
“I try not to think about that,” the man said. “I’m just glad to know my footsteps had a little luck in them.” The lucky winner and his wife are planning on using the money for their retirement and perhaps a new home.
There’s a double rollover Powerball jackpot on offer tonight after no player could match the entire winning set of numbers drawn last Saturday. Worth $60 million (estimated cash value of $36.6 million), if you hit the jackpot you’d be shopping around for luxury cars and sprawling mansions by the beginning of next week, as long as you made sure you remembered where you put your ticket!
If you’d like to follow in the footsteps of recent big-ticket winners, grab your entries now and visit the Powerball page now to learn more about the game. Good luck!
