Mississippi Lottery Hits $1 Billion in Sales
Tuesday November 9th 2021The Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC) celebrated a landmark moment last week as it reached $1 billion in gross ticket sales, less than two years after launching.
During this time, the Mississippi Lottery has transferred almost a quarter of a billion dollars to the State. The funds are allocated for improving the state's infrastructure, including roads and bridges, and for local schools.
"Thanks a BILLION to our players, retailers and vendors in helping the MS Lottery reach this milestone, all while benefiting roads, bridges and education!" the Lottery's Twitter account, @TheMSLottery, posted.
"Reaching the $1 billion mark is an incredible accomplishment considering the challenges we all faced just three and a half months after we launched," said MLC President Jeff Hewitt. "Our players have embraced our games, while our lottery retailers and vendors have worked hard to achieve this historic milestone for our organization and Mississippi."
Dr. Mike McGrevey, chairman of the MLC Board of Directors, also commended the Lottery's achievements. "Enthusiastic retailers, loyal players, dedicated Lottery employees and knowledgeable vendors have all contributed to the success of the MLC," he remarked.
"Given the achievements so far and the plans for the future, I sincerely believe the Mississippi Lottery will continue to be a winner for Mississippi."
MLC Makes Latest Transfer to State
On October 15, the Lottery transferred $11,243,551.36 for the month of September to the Lottery Proceeds Fund in the MS State Treasury. The MLC must complete the transfer of net proceeds within 20 days of the end of each month. The total Lottery transfers to the State in Fiscal Year 2022 now stand at an estimated $33,147,268.74.
