Mega Millions lottery winners revealed
Thursday March 31st 2011A group of seven lottery winners who scooped $319million in the Mega Millions draw last Wednesday, have been revealed. All the members of the syndicate work together at New York State’s Department of Homes and Community Renewal and have been clubbing together to buy lottery tickets for the past three or four years when a big jackpot is a stake.
According to a report by the Lottery Post, syndicate member Mike Barth was standing waiting to buy a lottery ticket when another customer pushed in and took his place in the queue. Mr Barth stayed quiet and that decision meant the Quik Pick lottery ticket he bought would turn him into a multi-millionaire.
It was late at night when the first member of the group realised they’d won the jackpot after checking out the lotto results online.
According to ABC News, there could have been eight winners rather than seven, but one regular member of the syndicate decided to opt out for that particular draw.
The members of the group were unveiled to applause from friends and family members at a news conference in New York earlier today.
The lottery jackpot, which was the fifth-largest in Mega Millions lotto history, will be divided equally between the seven players leaving each with a cheque for $19.1m after tax.
