Mega Millions Jackpot Hits $790 Million
Sunday July 24th 2022Mega Millions has its third-highest ever jackpot up for grabs in the next draw on Tuesday night. It's also the fourth-highest prize in lottery history.
The jackpot increased after no one matched all six numbers to take it home on Friday night. The winning numbers in the July 22 drawing were white balls 14, 40, 60, 64 and 66 and Mega Ball 16. The cash option is $464.4 million, the ninth-biggest ever in US lottery lump sum prize values.
The jackpot is now the highest it’s been since a $1.05 billion prize was won in January 2021 by four players in a Michigan lottery club, who chose to stay anonymous.
And it’s likely to grow even further in the coming days as players flock to purchase tickets before the next drawing on Tuesday at 11:00 PM ET.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot to date was $1.537 billion, won by an anonymous player in South Carolina on October 23, 2018.
That prize sits just below the biggest lottery jackpot of all time: a $1.5864 billion Powerball prize won by three tickets sold California, Florida, and Tennessee for the January 13, 2016 draw.

Jackpot Run Generates Millions of Winners
Friday was the 28th draw where the jackpot has rolled over. The current run began with the top prize at its $20 million starting value in the April 20 draw, after the jackpot was last won in Tennessee on April 15.
This run has produced nearly 21.4 million winning tickets, including 33 worth $1 million or above, sold in 17 states nationwide: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
Friday’s Winners

Four players - one each in Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia - matched all five white ball numbers to win the Mega Millions second prize. Three of those tickets actually tripled in value to $3 million, since they had added the Megaplier option at the time of purchase, and the Megaplier number drawn on Friday was 3X. The ticket sold in Virginia is worth $1 million. The $3 million Delaware ticket set a record as the state’s biggest-ever Mega Millions win.
105 tickets matched four of the white balls to score the game’s $10,000 third prize, and 16 of those tickets are actually worth $30,000 each since they also included Megaplier.
2022 Mega Millions Jackpot Wins
The Mega Millions top prize has been hit four times so far this year:
- $15 million won in Tennessee on April 15 - not claimed yet
- $110 million won in Minnesota on April 12 - the state’s first-ever Mega Millions top prize win was claimed by an anonymous couple the same month
- $128 million won in New York on March 8 - claimed by Brooklyn man Herman Kahan in June
- $426 million won in California on January 28 - claimed by Kristine Wellenstein in June
