Tuesday May 11th 2010A single Georgia Lottery ticket won the $132 million jackpot in the Mega Millions draw on Friday 29 August, 2008. The winning numbers were 21, 25, 26, 50 and 51, and the Mega ball was number 22. The winning ticket was bought in Mableton, Georgia, and the owner of the Chevron store that sold it will receive a generous bounty prize.
When the Mega Millions jackpot winner comes forward, they will be given a choice of taking their prize as an annuity or as a cash lump sum. The cash lump sum option is expected to be worth around $60 million.
The Mega Millions game is played every Tuesday and Friday. To win the top prize, players have to correctly match five main numbers from 1 to 56 and 1 Mega ball number from 1 to 46. The odds of doing this are 1 in 175,711,536.
Georgia is no stranger to Mega Millions success. In February 2008, a Georgia MegaMillions player scooped a jackpot of $270 million, and in September 2006, Ben Chason from Bainbridge, Georgia won $163 million. This latest Georgian Mega Millions win shows that the state continues to enjoy its fair share of jackpot-winning luck.
In addition to the €132 million jackpot, eight players won a second tier prize of €250,000 each and 62 more player each won $10,000. The Mega Millions jackpot has now been reset to the base level of $12 million.
