Lotto Texas Jackpot Won for First Time in Eight Months
Thursday October 1st 2020The Lotto Texas jackpot has finally been won, after more than eight months of rollovers. The $47 million jackpot was the highest seen on the game in a decade and one lucky ticket holder from Seguin won it all on Wednesday.
The winning numbers from the Lotto Texas drawing on Wednesday September 30th were 4, 11, 16, 19, 27, and 30. One player matched all of those numbers to win the huge jackpot. The Texas Lottery has confirmed that the winning ticket was purchased at a Pic N Pac store in Seguin.
It was also confirmed that the winner picked their own numbers and opted to take the cash jackpot option, which is worth an estimated $39.8 million. The winner has not yet come forward to claim the prize, but players in Texas have to specify whether they want to take the cash or annuity jackpot at the time they purchase the ticket.
The winner now has 180 days to claim their prize. Texas is also one of the states that allows jackpot winners to remain anonymous, so the identity of the lucky ticket holder may not be disclosed when they do come forward to claim.
Wednesday’s big win brings to an end one of the most extraordinary periods in Lotto Texas history. The jackpot had been rolling over since mid-January and had gone an incredible 73 consecutive drawings without being won. It grew to become the largest lottery jackpot available in North America by the time Wednesday’s draw rolled around, surpassing the prizes offered by big multi-state games such as Powerball and Mega Millions.
Attention will now turn to the as-yet-unknown winner and whether they will decide to go public with their big win. The Lotto Texas jackpot has now reset to its starting value of $5 million for the next draw on Saturday, with an estimated cash value of $4.2 million.
