After no ticket in the August 29 draw matched all six numbers, the prize reached its highest peak since May 29, 2010, when it hit $97 million.

The jackpot has been rolling since a Laredo player won $17.5 million on January 15, 2020. 65 draws later, the amazing prize has proved yet again that everything is bigger in the Lone Star State. The Lotto Texas jackpot is currently the second-largest lottery prize in the US and the fifth-largest worldwide.

"Lotto Texas has been on quite a run this year and now our players will have a shot to play for the game's largest jackpot prize in more than decade," said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery Commission. "I look forward to congratulating the biggest Lotto Texas winner since 2010."

Texas-sized jackpots

It's been more than two years since a Lotto Texas prize of more than $30 million has been won. On May 16, 2018, a Houston ticket hit a $30.25 million payout with a ticket purchased at MJ's All Season Food Store.

Going back to 2010, the $97 million jackpot was hit on May 29 with a ticket sold at 7-Eleven, 8902 Garland Road in Dallas. The prize was claimed by The Bilmar Trust.

The biggest jackpot in the game's history was $145 million, won on June 19, 2004 by El Paso man Alfredo Ornelas Barragan and claimed by VOM Enterprises, Ltd.
