Lotto America Jackpot Won in Minnesota
Thursday March 15th 2018The Lotto America jackpot has been won for the first time since the game was relaunched in a new format last November. A lucky player from Minnesota matched all five main numbers and the Star Ball to win $22.8 million in Wednesday night’s drawing.

The winning numbers for Wednesday March 15th were 8, 21, 38, 50 and 51, with Star Ball 4. Ticket holders from all 13 participating states enjoyed success, but the glory belonged to Minnesota as someone from the Land of 10,000 Lakes claimed the historic jackpot.

The winner from Minnesota now has one year to come forward and claim their prize, and can choose to claim a reduced lump sum or accept the full $22.8 million as an annuity payment over the next 29 years.
A Long Wait Ends
Wednesday night’s jackpot success brought an end to a run of 34 rollovers since the new version of Lotto America began on Wednesday November 14th 2017. The game was launched in place of Hot Lotto, which was brought to an end earlier in the fall. Hot Lotto had suffered from declining sales and found itself at the centre of a lottery-rigging scandal which ended with one-time Multi-State Lottery Association security chief Eddie Tipton being sentenced to prison.
Lotto America had previously been played from 1988 to 1992 under a different format, with players required to select seven numbers from 1 to 40. It was replaced by Powerball, before being rebooted last year.
The game is still available to play for just $1 and players have to select five numbers from 1 to 52, plus a Star Ball from a separate range of 1 to 10. The All Star Bonus number also allows players to increase the value of non-jackpot prizes.
Next Jackpot
The Lotto America jackpot will reset to its minimum amount of $2 million for the next draw on Saturday, while there are also gigantic prizes up for grabs in both Powerball ($455 million) and Mega Millions ($345 million) this weekend.
