Kansas Man Claims $50 Million Missouri Mega Millions Jackpot
Saturday March 23rd 2019A Kansas man has claimed the $50 million Mega Millions jackpot from the March 12, 2019 drawing with a winning ticket he bought in Missouri.
Hira Singh, of Shawnee, Kansas, purchased the winning ticket when he fueled up his vehicle at a regular stop for him on his work commute, the QuikTrip on 6641 E. Truman Road in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Quick Pick ticket matched all six winning numbers in the Tuesday night drawing: white balls 10, 12, 16, 49 and 57 and the Mega Ball of 18.
Singh was unaware of his amazing good fortune until Saturday, when he used a Check-A-Ticket machine at a store to check his Missouri tickets. “I prayed upon my God and then scanned it,” he said, laughing. “Then I checked it like three more times!”
Singh claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, MO recently, saying he was “still surprised” by his win and considering what he would use the prize money for.
“It’s so much fun to see our players win,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “Mr. Singh is our 515th Missouri-Lottery made millionaire, and because this Mega Millions win happened in Missouri, the state will collect approximately $1.2 million in state income tax on his lump-sum prize.”
The QuikTrip that sold the jackpot ticket is also a winner – it will receive a $50,000 bonus check.
This is the second Mega Millions jackpot ticket sold in Missouri since sales began in 2010. A Noel resident bought the first jackpot ticket in July 2015.
