Jackpot-Winning Mega Millions Ticket Sold in Laguna Hills, California
Wednesday May 3rd 2017A Mega Millions ticket holder from California enjoyed the perfect end to the month after they won Friday night’s $61 million jackpot. The prosperous player, who is yet to make contact with California state lottery officials, successfully matched the numbers 6, 13, 18, 20, 31 and Mega number 13 to land the eight-figure reward.
The lucky lottery fan bought their entry from a 7-Eleven on Moulton Parkway in Laguna Hills and has become the first player to pocket the top prize since Eliberto L. Cantu of Texas collected a $177 million jackpot in the drawing on Friday March 31st. Of course, it isn’t just the ticket holder who stands to profit from this latest win. The convenience store from which the ticket was purchased stands to receive $305,000 for selling a winning ticket, as well the honor of displaying a ‘Millionaire Made Here’ sign in the window.
The winner, who has one year to collect their prize, must now decide whether to take the $61 million, minus federal taxes, in the form of 30 payments spread out over 29 years or a one-off cash lump sum of $37.3 million.
Following Friday’s draw, lottery officials were quick to issue a helpful reminder to the winner. The announcement stated: “The California Lottery strongly urges last night’s winner to sign the back of his or her ticket in ink, keep it in a safe place.” Officials were also keen to point out that the ticket holder could claim their winnings from their nearest lottery district office.
The lucky player from Laguna Hills wasn’t the only player to enjoy a fruitful weekend. A New Jersey Cash 5 ticket holder landed a $1.4 million jackpot on Saturday after purchasing their entry at Paradise Deli on Stephenville Parkway in Edison. The player also had the honor of becoming the winner of the largest prize claimed by a single ticket this year.
If you fancy your chances of following in the footsteps of the Laguna Hills winner, this Friday’s $20 million Mega Millions jackpot draw is one not to be missed. You can pick your numbers online or play via any authorized retailer in participating states and jurisdictions. Good luck!
