Israel Lottery beats the odds

Tuesday October 19th 2010

A lottery is exactly what it says, making the odds of winning very unfavourable. However, the draw that took place on Saturday evening saw the Israel Lottery beat the odds as a record breaking 95 people matched winning numbers to scoop an amazing lottery prize. What made this Israel Lottery draw so unusual is that for the second time in two months, the numbers that were drawn were almost identical. Research from a Hebrew University claim that the chances of this happening are around one in four trillion.

The numbers that were drawn in this Israeli Lottery on Saturday evening were 13, 14, 26, 32, 33, and 36 with a strong number 2. The only difference with the other Israeli Lottery draw which took place on 21st September was that the strong number in this case was 1.

Of the 95 major winners in this Israeli Lottery draw, three of them managed to match seven numbers correctly which includes the strong number and took home four million shekels, which is about $1.1 million. The other 92 winners match six of those drawn to take home 4,000 – 6,561 shekels which is between $1,116 and $1,831.

A spokesman for the Hebrew University states that these lottery odds are similar to those that might be used for the possibility of life on Mars, which gives an indication of just how unlikely an event like this is in any lottery games.

It would be interesting to see how many Israeli Lottery players pick the same numbers again when they buy lottery tickets for the next draw.
