Ilford named as UK’s luckiest town

The town of Ilford in Essex has been named as the luckiest place in the UK. According to data compiled by the National Lottery, Ilford is the town with the highest concentration of big lottery winners in Britain. Between them the players have netted £87million in the 16 years since the lottery began.

Newcastle claimed second place in the table. A report by the Press Association said one in 6,207 of the city’s residents have won a jackpot prize, helping the North East to become one of the luckiest regions in the UK. A total of 407 jackpot winners living in the North East have scooped £684million between them.

The study included all jackpot lottery winners, including those people who decided not to go public.

A spokesperson for the National Lottery, said: “Congratulations to Ilford, which has held on to the top spot as the luckiest place to live in the UK. There are obviously many residents in the area who have enjoyed a lucky windfall on the lottery over the past 16 years.”
