Identity of Powerball winners to be released
Friday February 11th 2011There are just hours left until New York Lottery organisers release the identities of two Powerball lottery jackpot winners who between them scooped over $170million. The first winner decided to buy lottery tickets for the Christmas Day draw and ended up winning $48.8million, which if taken as a lump sum would equate to $24.9million. The second player bought a ticket for the January 22 draw, and won a whopping $122million. Despite speculation and rumour going into overdrive in the state of New York, the identities of the two winners have remained secret, leading some people to suggest the tickets had been lost.
But a report by New York’s Times Union newspaper, said the winners have had their tickets validated and will be presented to the press at a news conference this morning. The event is due to take place at 11am on the South Concourse of the Empire State Plaza.
It won’t be long before media attention focuses on a new Powerball jackpot winner. The estimated jackpot for the next draw on Saturday night stands at $82million which is sure to bring a smile to the face of anyone lucky enough to match all the correct numbers.
