EuroMillions Winners Chris and Colin Weir Face the Press

Friday July 15th 2011

Tuesdays £161/€185 million EuroMillions winners Chris and Colin Weir face the press after speculation as to who the UK winner or winners may have been. The couple who have been married for 30 years are from Largs in Ayrshire. A bold move by the couple to go public came after the realisation that even with the best efforts, they would not be able to keep such a large win a total secret and the thought of trying to make up stories to prevent the news of their EuroMillions win being known, proved to be an unattractive prospect.

This was the largest Jackpot prize ever won on the EuroMillions and the couple have broken several records in winning this jackpot. This is the biggest ever single win on EuroMillions and they are also the UK’s largest single lottery winners.

The jackpot cap on the EuroMillions was first introduced on 6th March 2009 and it reached its cap for the first time on 8th July. As the jackpot was not won the following draw also saw a capped jackpot which was the draw that saw Colin and Chris Wier become winners.

On being interviewed the couple were told that they were just below the Beckhams on the rich list and asked how that made them feel. Colin joked ‘maybe we should try for another kid’.

Chris went to buy lottery tickets on the Monday before the draw and used the Lucky Dip option for all five lines that she purchased. The couple who have both retired due to medical conditions, plan to look after their two children who are both single and do some good with the money. However, they appreciate the scale of the win and plan to take their time and get proper advice before making firm decisions.
