EuroMillions Celebrates

Thursday February 12th 2009

EuroMillions celebrates its fifth birthday on Friday 13 February, 2009. It’s amazing to think that five whole years have passed since the biggest game in Europe was launched, but we’re very pleased to be able to congratulate EuroMillions on its huge success.

When EuroMillions was first launched on Friday 13 February, 2004, there were plenty of nay-sayers who doubted whether a multi-national lottery would prove as popular as other types of lottery games. This scepticism was understandable to some degree because there was no other multi-national lottery anywhere else in the world, but the National Lottery organisations in France, Spain and the UK proved they knew what they were doing in no uncertain terms. Within a few months of the launch the EuroMillions game was not only successful, it had spread to six other countries!

EuroMillions has created plenty of big winners throughout Europe. In the UK, the biggest individual winner so far is Angela Kelly, who won more than £35 million in August 2007. Two years earlier, in July 2005, Dolores McNamara in Ireland won €115 million. And three winners shared €125 million – the biggest jackpot on record so far – in February 2006.

Readers who have not played the EuroMillions lottery are missing out on a lot of fun and, as you have just seen, a potential fortune. To participate all you have to do is choose five main numbers (from 1 to 50) and two Lucky Star numbers (from 1 to 9). Match all seven numbers and you will win the jackpot, but even if you don’t manage that you have a 1 in 24 chance of winning one of the other prizes available, and some of those can be very substantial.

You can buy lottery tickets online and play EuroMillions from the comfort of your own home no matter where you are, so be sure to join the celebrations by buying a ticket or two and don’t forget to check those all-important lottery results after the next draw. Good luck!
