A couple from Suffolk in the United Kingdom have won a lottery fortune worth £3.9 million, and are now looking forward to taking a luxury cruise to celebrate. Stan and Pat Cable, who live in the market town of Eye, matched all six numbers to scoop £3,980,528 on Saturday 17 May.

“We were about to wash our Border Terrier, Rudi, when Stan said he wanted to check the Lotto numbers on Teletext,” Pat said. “Next thing I knew he was telling me we’d got all six numbers! We were in such complete shock we had to go to the nearest shop to double check the numbers and then we went to our niece to triple check them on the internet. Needless to say, the dog never did get washed!”

Stan works as a volunteer at a centre called the Stowmarket Monday Club that helps adults who have learning disabilities. The couple do not plan to leave the area. “We don’t want to move as we love our home,” Stan explained. “But we’d both like to buy a caravan and go on a holiday of a lifetime. Pat doesn’t like flying so it’ll probably be a cruise. I’d also like a big 4x4, but Pat’s not keen. What we really need is a new sofa as we’ve only ever had two in all 37 years of our married life!”

Stan and Pat have been playing the UK Lotto game ever since it started in November 1994. They enter the same numbers every week, and succeeded when 03, 11, 12, 41, 46 and 47 were selected by the Topaz machine. The jackpot was worth £7,961,056 but because there were two tickets matching all six numbers, the prize was split to give the Cables and another winner £3,980,528 each.
