Car and Computer Top Shopping List for Big Mega Millions Winner

Wednesday March 30th 2016

The Washington player who scooped a massive $157 million on Mega Millions earlier this month has revealed that his first purchase was a new computer after coming forward to claim his money. The lucky ticket holder, named Michael Burkett from Seattle, matched all five main numbers plus the Mega Ball in the drawing on Tuesday March 8th.

He did not contact authorities for a couple of weeks but has now gotten his hands on his money after presenting his ticket at Washington’s Lottery headquarters in Olympia, according to a news release. Burkett came forward with his family and decided not to disclose too much information about his future plans, but it was confirmed that he chose to receive the one-off cash payment of $102.8 million rather than the annuity option, while he now has his sights set on a new car.

“After the reality of winning settled in, the winner’s first purchase was an Alienware PC from Dell. The man, who is a fan of electric vehicles, also shared that he has his eye on a new red Tesla,” said the news release about the big win.

Burkett is the fourth player from Washington to have won the Mega Millions jackpot and only the second participant this year to have won the game’s top prize, after a ticket holder from New York bagged $165 million on 8th January.

There have now been six drawings in a row where nobody has landed the jackpot after last night’s game passed by without a winner of the top prize. There were still some incredible sums of money given away, but the jackpot will now rise to $50 million for the next drawing on Friday. If you want to emulate Michael Burkett and splash out on some great presents for yourself, you can buy tickets online or from authorised retailers across the United States.
