California Lottery syndicate wins $12m
Wednesday February 9th 2011A group of clerical workers from a school in Montebello, California, have scooped a whopping $12million on the state's SuperLotto Plus draw. The 11 co-workers have been playing together for the past two years, and always buy lottery tickets from the same 7-Eleven store. One member said that it was the retailer's "positive energy" that convinced them to keep playing there, and after seeing their lottery numbers come up in Saturday's draw they were certainly glad they had.
The group's spokesperson, Ramone Solis, said: "Members of the group had heard about a winning ticket being sold in Whittier so they were already assembled when I returned to confirm the win. We all jumped around the office screaming and celebrating!"
According to California Lottery officials, the group has yet to decide if they will opt for annuity payments, or instead go for a cash lump sum, which would equate to $7.1million.
The owner of the 7-Eleven is also sure to be doing a little celebrating. They will receive a cheque for $60,000 just for selling a winning ticket.
The next SuperLotto Plus draw will be held tonight (9) and the estimated jackpot stands at $7million, or a cash value of $4.1million.
