According to the Associated Press, Mrs Roncal has opted to take a one-off lump sum which will result in a payment of about $4million once state and federal taxes have been deducted.

California Lottery officials said the new multi-millionaire did not want to speak to the press following her win.

Mrs Roncal bought her winning ticket at the Manila Oriental Market in Daly City, which is sure to become a hotspot for people in the area who want to buy lotto tickets. According to the San Mateo County Times, it is the third time in as many years that a major winner has bought their ticket from the store.
