2nd highest win for Iowa Lottery
Friday December 31st 2010A lucky ticket-holder in America’s Hot Lottery scooped the third largest ever top prize in the game, and the second biggest in the state of Iowa on Wednesday, winning a $16.5million (£10.7million) jackpot. 36 hours after the draw, the winner had still not come forward, despite lottery officials preparing a special banner for the QuikTrip store in Des Moines at which the winning ticket was sold.
The store’s staff will also share a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Because of the new year holiday, the winner will now have to wait until Monday before they can claim their prize.
The Hot Lottery is run in 14 American states along with the District of Columbia. The only winner in Iowa to have ever won more in the game walked away with just under $20million (£12.9million) in January 2007.
