$1m North Carolina Lottery ticket may go unclaimed

Tuesday February 15th 2011

The owner of a lottery ticket worth $1million has just a matter of hours left to claim their prize before the money is gone forever. If no one comes forward and presents the winning Mega Millions ticket to lottery officials before 5pm on Wednesday, it will become the first seven figure prize to go unclaimed since the multi-state game began in North Carolina in 2006.

Alice Garland, executive director of the North Carolina Lottery, said: "Celebrating winners is one of the most fun things we do at the lottery and we hate to see prizes go unclaimed, especially ones of this magnitude."

The winning ticket was purchased for the Mega Millions lottery draw on August 20, 2010, in the town of Matthews, Mecklenburg County. The winning numbers were 4, 13, 20, 29 and 48.

If the holder of the winning ticket is simply waiting to make a last-minute entrance, then they need to ensure they arrive at North Carolina Lottery headquarters in Raleigh before 5pm on Wednesday afternoon.
