€190 million Euromillions Jackpot Won and Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $300 million - UPDATED
Wednesday August 15th 2012This week, the world of lotteries have seen two major events – the eventual jackpot winner of the biggest Euromillions jackpot ever, plus the Powerball jackpot passing the $300 million mark by rolling over 14 times to date. The Euromillions jackpot was finally won on Friday 10th August 2012 by a couple from Suffolk in the UK, named Adrian and Gillian Bayford, who took home that record breaking jackpot of €190 million. When asked what they wanted to do with the money at their first press conference, they replied they wanted to use it to “Make people smile.”
So, with the excitement of the Euromillions over for now, our attention is turned to the Powerball. This jackpot is expected to reach at least $305 million in its draw tonight, Wednesday 15th August 2012, with some reports indicating it could reach as high as $320 million. If there is no winner in tonight’s draw, there is a possibility that the jackpot for the Saturday could equal the biggest ever jackpot of $365 million, which was won in February 2006 by a syndicate of Nebraskan workers.
This is already the fifteenth largest jackpot in US history, with reports coming in from the US that the jackpot could potentially reach much higher due to the amount of tickets being sold. Indeed, this is already the fourth largest Powerball jackpot to date, so if it continues to roll we could be seeing a record-breaking top prize figure by the time it is won.
The Powerball has climbed to these enormous heights as it has been rolling over since 27th June 2012, where it was last won by a single ticket holder from Connecticut. Since then, no ticket holder has managed to match all five numbers plus the Powerball, which of course begs the question – tonight, could it be you?
