$189M Mega Millions Jackpot Winner Claims Prize
Wednesday October 16th 2013Just over a week after winning the $189m Mega Millions jackpot, last Friday saw the winning ticket holder come forward to claim their life-changing prize. The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, collected his win from Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore last Friday.
The Anne Arundel County man told officials that his family communicated the winning Mega Millions numbers to him in a dream. The next day he purchased ten Mega Millions tickets from his usual retailer Dash In located on Quarterfield Road, Seven, with varying combinations of the predicted numbers.
After revealing that he was the $189 million jackpot winner, he and his wife hid the winning ticket under jug and then decided to stash it in a lamp light bulb socket – fortunately after unplugging the lamp – for safekeeping.
The winner opted for a lump sum cash payment, meaning he received $86 million after state and federal taxes.

Mega Millions tickets sales for Friday’s draw will close at 19.45 PDT on Friday October 18 across all participating states. They will then re-open at 05.30 PDT on Saturday October 19 for all draws from Tuesday 22 October.
