$124 Million Mega Millions Jackpot Won in New Jersey
Saturday July 25th 2020There's a new multimillionaire in New Jersey! One lucky ticket won the estimated $124 million Mega Millions top prize ($100.8 million cash option) on Friday night.
The winning ticket matched all six numbers in the Friday, July 24 draw: white balls 8, 33, 39, 54 and 58, and the gold Mega Ball 17.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Brenda’s Inc. at 110 Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne, Hudson County. The retailer will receive a $30,000 bonus payment.
It's the fourth time that a big-dollar multi-state lottery jackpot has been hit in New Jersey in 2020.
- On July 11, a Cash4Life ticket sold in Hawthorne, Passaic County won the grand prize of $1,000 a day for life
- On April 8, a ticket purchased in Piscataway won the $190 million Powerball top prize
- On February 11, a ticket sold in Edison scooped the $202 million Mega Millions jackpot
“Congratulations, to the winner of this multi-million-dollar jackpot! We encourage the winner to sign the back of the ticket, make a copy of both sides and put it in a safe place, and contact Lottery Headquarters at 609-599-5875 to arrange to file a claim for this ‘MEGA’ jackpot prize,” said New Jersey Lottery Executive Director James A Carey, Jr.
Lottery winners in the Garden State recently gained the right to stay anonymous if they choose, when a law was signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in January.
The deadline to claim a New Jersey Lottery prize is one year from the draw date. After that, the ticket expires and may no longer be redeemed. The prize money returns to the jurisdictions that contributed towards the jackpot.
When the ticket-holder is ready to claim their prize, they will have the choice of using the mail-in claims process or waiting for the New Jersey Lottery walk-in claims desk to reopen. Due to the spread of Covid-19, the office is closed through at least August 3.
The prize will have federal taxes withheld before it is paid to the winner.
More Mega Millions winners
Friday's draw was also lucky for a ticket in Illinois and one in Texas that are each worth $1 million after matching all five white ball numbers.
Sixteen players are $10,000 better off after they matched four of the white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the game's third prize.
Two of the winners chose to add the Megaplier option to their purchase - their prizes tripled to $30,000 each because the 3X Megaplier was drawn.
There were 479,470 winners across all prize tiers in the July 24 drawing, not counting the jackpot.
The current jackpot run started after an anonymous couple from Glendale, Arizona scored a $410 million Mega Millions jackpot - the first ever won in the state - on June 9.
During this run there were nearly 5.9 million winning tickets, of which 13 were worth $1 million or more.
