$100k for lucky Canadian lotto players
Friday April 1st 2011Two lottery players from Canada have struck gold by spending just a few dollars on instant scratchcards. Lottery officials from Ontario announced yesterday that Red Lake resident, John Wesley James, scooped the top prize of $50,000 on an instant Quest for Gold Crossword game.
Mr James said he plays the game because money from ticket sales goes to help support amateur athletes in the state. He told lottery organisers that this was his first major win and that he intends to spend the cash windfall on taking his wife on holiday to Cuba and clearing some bills.
Mr James wasn’t the only Ontario lottery player to get rich last week. Joseph Veltri was scratching off an Instant Keno card when he also hit a $50,000 jackpot.
The 53-year-old from Thunder Bay plays the lottery frequently, and said he previously won a $700 prize on an instant scratchcard.
He said: "I played the scratch ticket out in the parking lot after I bought it. It feels good. I’m really happy!
"I’m going to buy a new vehicle with the money."
