Lottery Couriers in Florida

Florida is set to become the newest state to allow Lottery Couriers to operate within the state thanks to new legislation.

Using a lottery courier is becoming an increasingly popular way to play draw games and scratch-offs across the U.S., but it can be hard to keep up with where they are available. Find out below everything you need to know about how couriers work and when they might be coming to Florida.

What Are Lottery Couriers?

A courier is a company or individual that delivers a package or letter from person to person or place to place, and a lottery service does exactly the same. They provide you with a way to order tickets online, whether that’s from the comfort of home or anywhere else where there’s no lottery terminal. You no longer have to go out of your way to fill out a playslip at a retailer and stand in line behind other customers – especially when jackpots are high and queues can get huge.

Courier services include Jackpot.com, who are currently active in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Ohio. This is how the process works with Jackpot:

  • Choose the lottery you want to play from a wide range of options, including Mega Millions and Powerball alongside your state specific games.
  • Pick your numbers, choose your draw days and fill in all your other selections online (all the same features you’d have to decide on in-store such as Power Play or Double Play for Powerball).
  • Place your order. You’ll need to set up an online account and add funds if you’re new to the site.
  • Your order request is processed by Jackpot.com and their fulfilment operations team buys the ticket on your behalf.
  • A digital image of your printed ticket is uploaded to your account, showing that it belongs to you.
  • The actual ticket is stored in a fireproof safe at Jackpot.com’s secure facility.
  • Once the draw takes place, your ticket is checked and verified for you. Any winnings below $600 will be paid into your account so that you can withdraw them or continue to play. If you win more, the ticket will be delivered swiftly and safely so that you can claim directly from a prize center.

The benefits of lottery couriers are multiple. There’s certainly no danger of missing out on a prize like there is with a paper ticket, which can easily get lost or damaged.

Lottery couriers in Florida would work the same way as they do elsewhere. The choice of games would include multi-state favorites such as Powerball, Mega Millions and Cash4Life, and there would likely be a number of Florida exclusives too. That could mean FL Lotto, Jackpot Triple Play, Fantasy 5 and Pick games.

Regulation is key in such a rapidly-evolving industry to ensure that all games remain fair and players stay safe. Courier companies will be required to be registered and licensed, and they will be subject to traditional licensing conditions such as age restrictions, age and location verification, promotional and advertising restrictions, and responsible gaming measures.

Jackpot.com is one courier that has put an emphasis on responsible gaming, allowing customers to set spending limits and daily deposit limits, as well as providing access to responsible gambling resources.

Couriers operate independently from state lotteries but the tickets you buy through them are official and you’ll receive 100 percent of your winnings. A number of lucky players have won some extraordinary prizes already in other states and it might not be long before they are given the green light in Florida.

Couriers Not Currently Active

At the moment, no courier services are active in Florida. You can’t play via the internet at all - or by mail or fax – and there is not currently a subscription service. Instead, you have to purchase your tickets from a retail location.

With more than 13,000 authorized FL Lottery retailers in the Sunshine State there are plenty of places to go to buy a ticket, but having no choice but to go to a store can make the lottery feel a bit out of touch in the modern world where you can shop for virtually anything online.

That is where lottery couriers come in, and work is going on behind the scenes to hopefully get them regulated sometime in 2025. They will then be able to operate in Florida with the full backing of lawmakers in the same way they do in other states such as New Jersey and New York. Once this happens, playing the lottery will be simpler and more secure than ever.
